Durabond sintered valve seat inserts

Modern engines put much higher levels of thermal and mechanical stress on valve seats inserts. To handle the more severe conditions with these new generation engines, OEM is equipping them with high tech sintered valve seat inserts. The normal cast iron valve seat inserts will no longer adequately withstand the demands of this new engine environment. This is the reason why Durabond developed high tech sintered powder metal valve seat inserts in two specifications to suit any engine.
GOLD series (light to medium duty)
This valve seat provides high machineability. The sintered Gold series valve seat insert offers a blend of finely dispersed tungsten carbide in a matrix of tempered tool steel and special alloy particles. With this blend, the GOLD series represents a superb combination of good hardness and good machineability. They will cut easily and precisely, providing greater tool life. This naturally increases the intervals between tool sharpening or stone dressing. The GOLD series also provides good wear and heat resistance. This very machineable material is designed for naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines in the light to medium
duty range.
DIAMOND series (medium to heavy duty) This specification has very high heat resistance, even at extremely high temperatures. The sintered DIAMOND series valve seat insert is made out of a high speed tool steel (tungsten carbide). This insert also has ceramic like characteristics, which gives it very high temperature resistance. It has special additives blended into the matrix which impart high temperature lubricant properties to the valve seat. This solid lubricant in the seat helps prevent microwelding from the valve face to the seat itself. This eliminates the primary cause of valve seat erosion and failure. A very high heat and wear resistant DIAMOND series valve seat insert is designed for dry fuel applications (such as LPG), high performance engines and all heavy-duty and extreme applications. |
